Your Questions About Our Book Reviews, Answered

Readers ask us all sorts of questions, and a few come up again and again. We have gathered the most common ones here, with honest answers based on years of reading and recommending. If your question is not covered below, do feel free to email us and we will do our best to help.

How do you choose which books to review?

We read widely and follow our curiosity rather than the bestseller charts. Some titles come to us through recommendations from readers, others from browsing independent bookshops, and a few arrive as review copies from publishers. We only write about books we have read in full, and a free copy never buys a kind review.

Do you only cover new releases?

Not at all. A wonderful book does not stop being wonderful after its publication month. We happily review older titles and overlooked backlist gems alongside new releases, because the best book for you might well have come out twenty years ago.

Why do some reviews avoid plot details?

We try hard never to spoil a story. For many books, especially mysteries and literary fiction, half the pleasure lies in discovering where things go. When a review needs to discuss the ending, we will always warn you clearly first so you can decide whether to read on.

Can I suggest a book?

Absolutely, and please do. Some of our favourite reviews started life as a reader email. We cannot promise to cover every suggestion, but we read every message and keep a running list of titles to seek out.
